Kamala Harris walked a fine line familiar to many women of color during the debate
Duchess Harris chimes in on NBC's article about how the California senator brought her traditional résumé, barrier-breaking background and a collection of facial expressions to Wednesday’s debate.
"There is no doubt that Harris is prepared," said Duchess Harris, a professor of American studies and political science at Macalester College in Minnesota who researches Black women in politics and is not related to the senator. "She has experienced misogynoir her entire adult life," she added, using a term that refers to bias against Black women on the basis of both their race and gender.
